Branch of the Month Award

Bellarmine Branch

Here is the story from Kevin Li - Bellarmine Branch

During the month of August, my involvement in TAE wasn’t just collecting batteries, but expanding past that. After joining the Outreach Project, I tried to contact many companies and communities. For example, at Abbott (a large pharmaceutical company where my mom works), we got into contact with the employee responsible for the environmental issue. His response was pretty positive. And interestingly, he is an alumni with my current high school. We exchanged a few emails and had an online video conference. Although it's not finalized yet, it's promising. Another company we contacted—SuperMicro—is an unexpected nice surprise. Once we told an employee about the TAE/1MB project, he immediately offered help. SuperMicro not only agreed to partner with TAE/1MB but also donated over 1,000 batteries within just a few days. Several other companies are still in progress. I have also set up collection boxes at two new communities and sent out initial outreach emails to an adult school and a college. I’m glad that we raised awareness to many people through the Outreach Project.

Announcements

[Due 9/7 Wed] Intention to Participate in TAE's Global Events to Celebrate the Upcoming Environmental Holidays

Sept. 19-25 will be International Recycle Awareness Week, and Sept. 26 will be Environmental Health Day. TAE is calling all branches to participate in these environmental holidays by hosting or joining some 1MB events (e.g., neighborhood battery collections) or educational projects (e.g., making a video for our TAE YouTube Channel). We hope that you would fill out your participation intention ("yes," "no," or "maybe") in Column H of the Recycle Week 2022 Global Events Log Sheet by 9/7, Wednesday. For the announcement details and a success story of establishing a TAE/1MB partnership with Google, please see Joshua Lou's email on September 2nd with the subject of "[Due 9/7 Wed] Your Proposal to Join TAE Global Events to Celebrate Recycle Week 2022."

Encouraged by Google’s partnership, another good way to participate in the TAE Global Events is to continue the Outreach Project (see Column L). Joshua has given the editor role to anyone with the link to this flyer that Google is using for their 1MB battery drive. Please feel free to customize it for your use when you reach out to other companies. There are two ways to collaborate with the companies (see the Outreach Letter Template), and for your reference, Google agrees to go by the first model: they “collect and recycle, and we report to 1MB.”

You can also be creative in any way you’d like to raise awareness of e-waste recycling and take action. Happy International Recycle Week 2022!

The "TAE Ambassador" Title

As part of the Outreach Project, we will recognize any student leader who helps TAE/1MB establish at least 3 partnerships (verified by having their new logos added to the TAE/1MB homepages) and/or multi-branch projects as a "TAE Ambassador." The benefits to an ambassador include a display of their name and picture on the Awards webpage on the TAE website, and a digital Ambassador badge to add on their branch website. Thank you for playing an integral role in helping TAE make a positive impact around the world!
